SoundScriber 200 B

Used Google translator

SoundScriber 200 B.      Portable battery recorder - the phonograph. Made in the USA, probably in 1958. Recording is made on plastic floppy disks with diameter 3 and 4 inches by mechanical cutting grooves. Dimensions recorder 255 x 160 x 75 mm. Weight 2,4 kg. Dining 6 v, the four-cell battery D (UM-1), or from an external power source. Circuit collected on four transistors type 2N508, and two transformers. Despite the small number of transistors, electronics board does not look very simple, there are a lot of capacitors and resistors. Trails electronics board gilt. Mechanics of a rather complicated, is made very carefully and technologically. Everything to the smallest details made very high quality, and still works correctly. Also produced similar recorders "SoundScriber 200" with the circuit on two radio tubes.
Electronics course was defective, but otherwise not to be expected, since in the scheme of many electrolytic capacitors, and for 50 years they have dried up, and lost efficiency. Such failure is easily repaired, but there was another, more serious flaw. Was Spoiled recording needle. It consists of a holder with fixed therein cutting the crystal. That this crystal is absent. At first I assumed that the recorder can not be repaired because the repair would require replacement of the recording head completely, that is very problematic. But decided to try it, and stuck to the holder of a shortened gramophone needle. The experiment was a success, and after replacement of dry electrolytic capacitors, the recorder was in good order. Record obtained good quality.
Dynamic microphone with remote activation switch is connected to a recorder via a three wire cable in the screen hard, without connector. Rubber sheath cable from time cracked and crumbling in many places, but the wires kept working. The microphone also combines the function of the speaker. On the front panel are two slots "jack" in diameter 3.5 mm and 6 mm for connection of a pedal of remote control and headphones are located. On the left, next to the tonearm is playing volume and recording level, combined with the power switch. Right next to the tonearm record button is located in the recording. When the button is pressed, the arm is raised. When the button is pressed, the arm is lowered, and the recording needle is pressed to the plastic disc. Nearby is also a lever that, when clicked on that during the recording needle moves to "step" forward. This disk is formed "gap" separating the desired location recording, as on vinyl plate between the tracks. Over the tonearm playback and recording tonearm has a ruler to find the right place and to determine the balance of free disk space.

Externally, the apparatus looks lovely, has comfortable leather handle for carrying.

Battery compartment is combined with a storage compartment for microphones, and separated from it by a removable partition. On the right is seen jack (Jack 3,5 mm) for connecting an external power supply.

A microphone with a switch for remote activation is stored in the soft tissue cover.
